オープンソース・ソリューション最大手のレッドハット株式会社（東京都千代田区 平野正信代表取締役社長）は本日、株式会社ダイエー情報システム(以下、 DIS)（東京都港区 菅芳廣代表取締役社長）と包括的な戦略的パートナーシップを結び今後のLinuxシステム開発ビジネスを共同で進めていくことを合意したと発表した。
昨年、株式会社ローソン(LAWSON,Inc.)より新システムの開発を受託したDISは、ローコスト且つ動作の安定性や信頼性の高いLinuxをベースにしたシステム設計を行った。DISはLinuxのディストリビューションを選定するにあたり、Linuxシステムの能力、供給メーカの技術力やサポート力などを総合的かつ綿密に評価した。その結果米国や日本でシェアNo.1の実績を誇るRed Hat Linuxと、同ディストリビューションの供給元であるRHJに白羽の矢が立ち、今回の採用が決まった。
ローソンが日本全国に展開している約7,600の店舗すべてに、Red Hat Linux 7JベースのLinuxシステムが導入される。
DISは、これまでダイエー・グループ企業からの受注を中心にビジネスを展開してきた。しかし、今回手がけたローソンの新システム開発を契機に、今後はダイエー・グループ以外のシステム構築事業にも積極的に乗り出す構えである。その際、Red Hat Linux＋同社独自の開発ツール、分散システム運用ツールをベースにしてシステムの開発運用ビジネスを拡大していくことになる。

１９８５年に設立された株式会社ダイエー情報システム(ＤＩＳ)は、メーカ、小売業、顧客を相互に結ぶネットワークビジネスを推進する、流通ソリューション・プロバイダである。ＤＩＳは、チェーンストアシステム開発の経験により蓄積された豊富なノウハウをベースに、先進的な独自のＷＥＢーＥＤＩ技術を組み合わせることで、広範かつダイナミックなＳＣＭ(Supply Chain Management)システムの構築技術を完成。このシステムを導入したユーザは、商談や、商品・棚割マスター登録、ＰＯＳ情報交換のような企業間におけるコミュニケーションを効率よく推進することが可能となる。ＤＩＳでは、このシステム構築技術を同社の中核事業と位置づけ、今後ますます増えるであろうインターネット情報システム構築の需要に対応すべく、コンサルティングやサポートも含めた万全の体制を整えている。
さらに今回のローソンのプロジェクトにおいては、ＷＩＮＤＯＷＳ９５で稼働していた１５０万ステップ以上のＫＩＯＳＫ端末システムを短期間にＬＩＮＵＸへ移行できるツール開発も行った。
なお、完全分散型システムを構築するためのツールに関しては現在ＩＰＡ(情報処理振興事業協会＝経済産業省の外郭団体)の支援の下、ブラッシュアップ開発を重ねており、２００１年の第２四半期にフリーウェアとしてリリースされる予定である。

IDCの調査によれば、ここ2年で有料のLinuxほど出荷が急速に伸びたサーバ・オペレーティング・システムはないという。1999年は、Linuxの出荷量がサーバ・オペレーティング・システム市場の24.6％を占め、1998年の15.8％から大幅に上昇すると予測されている。IDCは、現在最も普及しているのはRed Hat Linuxで、米国Linuxユーザの68.7％が採用しているという数字を挙げている。また、調査会社のNetcraft, Inc. (www.netcraft.com)によれば、2000年5月現在、公開Webサイトの36％がLinuxベースのオペレーティング・システムで運営されており、公開Webサイトのなかで最も高い人気を持つという。IDCの調査では、Linuxサーバに関する投資の40％がインターネット関連アプリケーション向けで、インターネットにおいてLinuxサーバは揺るぎない地位を確保しているという。 IDCは最後に、2002年までに、5,500万台以上の携帯型およびノートブック型情報端末が出荷され、2005年までに情報端末の出荷はPCを上回るだろうと予測している。レッドハットは、Linuxベース・アプリケーションの需要の高さに加え、業界リーダーたちと数々の提携を結ぶことで、Compaq、Computer Associates、Corel、Dell、Hewlett-Packard、IBM、Intel、Netscape、Novell、Oracle、SAPなど、業界をリードする数多くのソフトウェア、ハードウェアベンダーからオープンソースの支持を得ている。
