株式会社神戸製鋼所（神戸市中央区）とオープンソース・ソリューション最大手のレッドハット株式会社レッドハット株式会社（東京都千代田区 平野正信代表取締役社長）は、今後急速な市場拡大が見込まれるオープンソーステクノロジーによる組込み事業で業務提携することを、本日発表した。この提携により今後、神戸製鋼の組込み用ソフトウェア製品がレッドハットの組込み用リアルタイムオペレーションシステム （RTOS）、eCosに対応していくことになる。
高品質の組込みソリューションを提供する神戸製鋼所は、組込み市場でのオープンソース化の流れを受け、進境著しいレッドハット製品の対応が必要であると判断し、今回の提携に踏み切ったもの。一方、世界最大のLinuxならびに組込み開発ツールのソリューションプロバイダであり、オープンソースに対する知識豊富なリソースによって、組込み開発の革新を目指すレッドハットは、多くの製品が存在するRTOS市場においてもオープンソースのリーダーとしての立場をさらに強めることになる。
オープンソースのRTOSとして構築されたeCosは高いカスタマイジング性や適応性を有し、GUIコンフィギュレーションツールを用いて、アプリケーション特有の要件に応じたコンフィギュレーションを容易に生成することができる。
さらに、eCos はカーネルコンポーネント、μITRON コンフィギュレーション、 ISO Ｃと数値演算ライブラリ、 eCos シミュレーション環境とデバイス・ドライバを含むソースコードを http://sourceware.redhat.com/ecos/ より自由にダウンロードして使用することができる。現在、eCosはターゲットとしてARM7/9、インテルStrongARM、Xscale、x86、富士通SPARClite、松下MN10300、東芝TX39/49、PowerPC、日本電気VR4300、V850、日立SH3/4をサポートし、WindowsNT4.0、RedHat Linux6.x、以降のホスト上でビルドが可能。また、ネットワークやファイルシステムなどミドルウェアも続々とサポートしている。
EcosはeCos Developer Kitsとして、GNUPro(の最新リリース, サポートプログラム, およびカスタムエンジニアリングサービスを統合したサービスで提供される。
