SRP는 지난 2006년부터 자사의 전력 사업부를 시작으로 시스템z 메인프레임에 리눅스를 도입해 왔다. 내부 IT 부서의 검증 절차를 통해 RHEL를 채택한 이후 현재 50여대의 서버를 RHEL 기반으로 운영하고 있다.
SRP의 리눅스/유닉스 선임 관리자인 케빈 마사리크(Kevin Masarik)는 “기존의 유닉스 시스템에서 리눅스로 마이그레이션 한 이후 활용도와 유연성이 크게 강화 되었으며 운영 비용이 크게 절감 되었다. 또한 기존 환경과의 연동성이 좋아 서버 스프롤과 같은 문제가 전혀 발생하지 않았으며, 작업 처리 능력면에서도 다른 운영체제 들과 비교하였을 때 리눅스가 가장 뛰어났다. 특히 메인프레임 기반의 RHEL은 기업 표준으로 추구하고자 하는 인프라에 가장 적합했다”고 말했다.
또한 SRP는 온라인 기반 관리 툴인 레드햇 네트워크 새틀라이트(Red Hat Network Satellite)를 통해 RHEL을 관리하고 있으며 시스템에 대한 이해도를 높여 효율적으로 운용하기 위해 레드햇의 교육 프로그램을 도입해 내부 교육을 강화하였다. 마사리크는 “RHN 새틀라이트를 활용함으로써 서버 관리에 드는 시간을 획기적으로 줄였으며, 관리 인력도 효율적으로 운용할 수 있었다. 보다 경제적인 시스템 관리를 원하는 기업이라면 새틀라이트의 도입을 적극 고려해 볼만하다”며 추천했다.
한편 SRP는 RHEL 기반의 서버를 점차 확장할 계획이며 제이보스 솔루션의 도입도 고려하고 있다.
