이번 기자 간담회에서 짐 화이트허스트 사장은 레드햇의 오픈 소스 협력 혁신 (Open Source Collaborative Innovation, 이하 OSCI)에 대한 정책을 발표할 예정이다. 본 정책은 레드햇이 오픈 소스 글로벌 커뮤니티의 협력 혁신을 도모하기 위해 2008년 아시아 태평양 지역에서 처음으로 시작했다. 현재 호주, 중국, 인도, 말레이시아, 싱가폴 등에서 OSCI가 진행되고 있으며 한국에서도 짐 사장 방한에 맞춰 시작될 계획이다. 짐 사장은 기자간담회 후 ‘2009 오픈 소스 심포지엄’에 기조 연설자로 참석, 본 OSCI 정책에 대한 보다 구체적인 내용을 발표할 예정이다.
11월 12일부터 13일까지 1박 2일간 한국을 방문하는 짐 화이트허스트 사장은 이번 방한 기간 동안 OSCI 정책의 일환으로 교육 기관과 양해각서를 체결한다. 13일에는 이화여자대학교에서 ‘레드햇 아카데미(Red Hat Academy)’ 프로그램의 한 일환으로 산학협력을 맺는다. 레드햇은 1년 동안 이화여자대학교 공과대학에 리눅스 및 오픈소스 기술에 대한 실무 교육을 제공함과 더불어, 레드햇 마케팅 인턴쉽 기회를 학생들에게 제공할 예정이다.
또한 짐 사장의 이번 방한을 계기로 한국 레드햇은 올해 내로 정부기관과 오픈 소스 산업 활성화를 위한 MOU 계약을 진행할 예정이다.
