Il nuovo Enterprise Service Bus (Esb) 4.0 Ga di Jboss, rilasciato a febbraio, e' il frutto di circa sei mesi di lavoro su Rosetta, sistema Esb acquisito da una compagnia assicurativa canadese. Acquisizione che ha permesso al gruppo di ottenenere in tempi brevi un prodotto maturo. Rosetta, che presenta un'architettura piuttosto simile a quella pensata dal team di Jboss, era infatti gia' in produzione da circa tre anni.
L'architettura di Jboss Esb 4.0 e' modulare e si puo' personalizzare con i file Xml di configurazione. Il funzionamento e' molto semplice: i messaggi, acquisiti da "listener", sono passati alla pipeline d'elaborazione che provvede a filtrarli e indirizzarli a destinazione. Sono supportati listener di tipo passivo (per esempio quelli che ricevono messaggi da code Jms) e attivo (quelli che ricevono messaggi tramite filesystem).La struttura dei messaggi e' molto simile a quella di Soap con intestazione, contesto, dati, allegati, proprieta' ed eccezioni. L'instradamento puo' essere effettuato analizzando il contenuto dei messaggi, mediante regole di Jboss Rules oppure espressioni Xpath.
La definizione delle regole di routing e' semplificata dall'ambiente di sviluppo Jboss Ide che include un plug-in per Jboss Rules. L'integrazione di servizi all'interno dell'infrastruttura non richiede necessariamente Api specifiche. Grazie ai "gateway", che agiscono come elementi di raccordo tra i servizi esterni (che non usano le Api di Jboss Esb), e' possibile semplificare l'integrazione dei componenti gia' esistenti con l'infrastruttura "a bus". La versione Ga, rispetto alla precedente, oltre al routing basato sui contenuti, offre diversi servizi ereditati da Rosetta.
Quello per la trasformazione dei messaggi e' basato su Smooks, un prodotto open source che consente di gestire le trasformazioni con la tecnica del profiling.
Le regole di trasformazione possono essere implementate mediante Xslt o con codice Java (cosa che consente di gestire anche i formati binari). Sono disponibili, gia' pronte all'uso, alcune delle piu' comuni trasformazioni.
Per esempio, per supportare i file a campi fissi o con campi variabili separati da virgole (Csv). Oltre che elaborati, i messaggi possono essere memorizzati, grazie al servizio di persistenza, per un uso differito oppure per l'auditing.
Registri a scelta
Per la registrazione dei servizi, Jboss Esb supporta l'interfaccia Java Api for Xml Registries (Jaxr) con un'implementazione basata su Scout di Apache. Il Registry puo' poggiarsi su un repository Uddi (anche qui l'implementazione di default e' di Apache). Sono tuttavia possibili altre configurazioni, con repository locale o remoto. Particolarmente interessate e' anche il supporto per il versioning dei servizi. Jboss Esb consente d'associare a ogni servizio un numero di versione che puo' poi essere utilizzato nella creazione di regole d'instradamento.
Jboss Esb puo' funzionare all'interno di un container, come Jboss Application Server 4 (con Ejb3) oppure Jakarta Tomcat, o in configurazione standalone. Il software e' disponibile in open source e sul sito di riferimento e' possibile trovare anche la documentazione aggiornata che, pero', al momento non sembra ancora molto esaustiva.
